The early-2027 cluster
Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa last voted in early 2022, so their five-year terms point to a February–March 2027 window. This cluster is headlined by Uttar Pradesh, whose 403 seats make it the largest and most closely watched contest of the year.
Late 2027: Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat
Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat went to the polls in late 2022, so they fall toward the end of 2027 — likely around November and December, respectively.

- Uttar Pradesh: The biggest prize. The BJP-led NDA defends its 2022 majority; the Samajwadi Party is the principal challenger.
- Punjab: The Aam Aadmi Party defends its 2022 breakthrough, with the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP also in contention.
- Uttarakhand: The BJP seeks to retain power; the Congress is the main opposition.
- Manipur: Returns to the ballot after a turbulent period. President’s Rule was in force from February 2025 to February 2026 amid ethnic conflict, after which an elected BJP-led government took office. Stability and reconciliation are central issues.
- Goa: A small, often fluid assembly; the BJP is in power.
- Himachal Pradesh: The Congress defends its 2022 win in a state that has frequently alternated between the Congress and the BJP.
